Camp winthers

the morning view over Cascade Lake

Camp Winthers has been owned and operated by the San Juan Unified School District since 1957. Their stunning 80-acre campus sits at 6,700' elevation along the shores of Cascade Lake on the edge of the Tahoe National Forest, and offers a huge variety of opportunities to explore. Participants can spend the weekend hiking, swimming, and climbing on campus. Facilities include on-site parking, a private lake, outdoor amphitheater, dining hall, basketball court, dozens of cabins, ample private tent sites, bathhouses with hot showers, and plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the peace and quiet of the High Sierra.

private lake access, perfect for a swim

Our workshop includes all meals, intensive instruction in small group classes, an end-of-camp group jam session, and a gorgeous private campus for playing music, swimming, and exploring. Saturday night we’ll host our third annual Whole Music Camp storytelling slam plus an evening campfire jam. Campers should also bring bedding, towels, and a tent if you prefer (the cabins are also available to us).

Please, no pets and no smoking at Camp Winthers. The lake has no lifeguard on duty, so adult supervision is required for swimmers at all times. We ask all hikers to stay on established trails and keep a respectful eye out for wildlife. To find Camp Winthers on social media, click here.
